ABOUT:

Varun received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Microbiology from the University of Mumbai where he completed his Master's thesis on the metabolism and virulence of bacterial biofilms. He joined Columbia University to pursue his PhD and joined the Fidock Lab in the summer of 2023. He is currently investigating the mechanisms of Artemisinin resistance in Plasmodium falciparum and the proteasome as a drug target. He is specifically interested in drug discovery, mechanisms of drug resistance, and infectious disease pathogenesis.
